Left: A multiplex mile marker on US 61 and IA 92 in Muscatine. It is a common practice in Iowa to place a small route symbol above mile markers on multiplexed routes to indicate which route the mile numbers are for.
Right: A typical county line marker in Iowa (in this case, Louisa County). Although county line markers have traditionally been the size of cardinal directional markers, they are currently being phased out in favor of larger markers.
This series of pages is dedicated to signs and other sights in and around the Hawkeye State. Each section consists of one page of thumbnails that link to the full-sized images.

Contributed photos will remain on this site, and once all the dust settles I will create a separate page for contributed photos. |

Contributions are welcome, especially if they're from parts of Iowa that I have yet to visit. I would prefer that the photos come in .jpg format and are not from some copyrighted work like a newspaper or magazine (since I don't want to end up in any legal battles over copyrighted photos). On a related note, these photos are not to be used for commercial purposes.
Special thanks go to all those who have contributed photos to these pages: Sandor Gulyas, Eric Peterson, Neil Bratney, Jay Deetelm, Jeff Morrison, Vern Wriedt, David Backlin, Michael Ehret, Mark Odor, Kurt Berge, Brian McMillin, Mike Murphy, Nathan Bush, and J.D. Adams.
Note: As of March 20, 2011, the Des Moines, Ames, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Fort Dodge, Iowa City, Mason City, Ottumwa, Quad Cities, Waterloo/Cedar Falls, and Lincoln Highway sections have entirely moved to Flickr. I have created new sets for Clinton, Fort Madison/Keokuk, Marshalltown, Mount Pleasant, Muscatine, and Newton, and all photos that I have taken since 2009 are also hosted on Flickr. For all of the sets in my Flickr photostream, click here.
All remaining pages are temporarily being hosted here. Any advertising that appears on the Flickr pages is placed by the site provider, not me.
